Fed: CASA defends delay in aircraft fuel warning

Mobil's recommendation last Friday that its customers not fly their planes was not
acted upon by the Civil Aviation Safety Authority until yesterday.

Authority spokesman PETER GIBSON says it waited for clarification before issuing a
formal directive grounding planes which had filled up with Mobil 100/130 avgas between
November 21 and December 23 last year.

Mobil issued a recommendation not to fly last Friday but Mr GIBSON says CASA didn't
receive the letter until late that day.
