Vic: Smoke hangs over southern Victoria from King Island fires

MELBOURNE, Jan 12 AAP - South-eastern Victoria was overnight cloaked in smoke believed
to have come from a fire on King Island in Bass Strait.

Calls flooded emergency service lines as the smoke moved across the Mornington Peninsula
and up to the Dandenong Ranges, south-east of the city, and further east to Warburton.

By midnight, witnesses reported seeing and smelling smoke in the city.

The Country Fire Authority (CFA) said the smoke was thought to have come from a 2,800-hectare
fire burning on King …
